Intro to R&D Centre
R&D Centre

On August 28, 2012 SHM held a grand opening of new research and development centre. The new centre bears the name of Professor Stan Vepřek from Technical University in Munich, whose long-standing scientific support helped SHM become the world leader in the field of PVD technologies for preparation of nanocomposite and other coatings. SHM thus becomes the only wholly Czech company with own R&D centre in the field of PVD technologies, founded on own ideas and patented principles. The R&D centre was co-financed by EU funds under the Operational Programme Enterprise and Innovations (OPEI), project Potential – call III.

Our project included construction of the new centre with an area of 1700 m2 and purchase of technological and laboratory equipments, which represent more than 50% of the initial investment. These technological equipments significantly improve conditions for the R&D works them selves. Except for the R&D workshop there is also an administrative part of 170 m2 including laboratory.

Experienced R&D team is a precondition for a successful investment of such nature (of the nature like this). Twelve experts graduated in physics resp. plasma physics, programming, electronics, engineering technology and industrial design form the base of it in both companies SHM and PIVOT. This team has many achievements in the development of own technologies, successfully solved over 20 projects with national and international support, applied over 10 patents or patent applications, is a world leader in industrial preparation of nanocomposite PVD coatings and commercial coating units, which allow a preparation of nanocomposites.

This project envisages gradual expansion of the expert team as well as the technological and laboratory equipment.
